Let's address the elephant in the room: you've definitely stalked your competitors' social media, analyzed their content, and thought "I should be doing that too." It's tempting to copy what looks successful. But here's the problem with trying to reverse-engineer someone else's marketing strategy: you're only seeing the tip of the iceberg.
You see their Instagram posts, but you don't know their email strategy. You see their blog topics, but you don't know their conversion rates. You see their LinkedIn activity, but you don't know their actual ROI. Most importantly, you don't know if it's even working for them!
Stop trying to reverse-engineer your competition's marketing strategy. You don't have time for that, and it probably won't work anyway. Their strategy was built for their business, their audience, their goals, and their resources. Trying to copy it is like wearing someone else's prescription glasses—everything will look blurry.
Instead, get curious about what they're doing from a learning perspective. If a competitor is crushing it on LinkedIn, that tells you LinkedIn might be worth exploring for your industry. But your approach, messaging, and content should be uniquely yours. Focus on understanding your own customers so well that your competitors become irrelevant.
