So You Think You’re Good at Marketing? Let’s Find Out

So You Think You’re Good at Marketing? Let’s Find Out

First off: If you feel like you’re good at marketing, you’re already ahead of the game. Seriously—most small business owners either don’t know where to start, can’t seem to find their groove, or straight-up admit they’re winging it.

So, if you’re feeling confident? Gold star for you.

But here’s the thing: At Enji, we believe everyone—yes, even you—has room to level up their marketing game. Us included.

Especially when you’re running a small business, it’s not always easy to know if you’re crushing it or just coasting. Your friends and family will always tell you you're doing great (thanks, Mom)—but compliments alone don’t pay the bills.

Today, we’re helping you gut-check your marketing skills with:

  • 14 questions to help you understand if you’re good at marketing (or not)
  • What it really looks like to get “good at marketing”
  • How Enji can help you get good at marketing (fast!)

Let’s jump into the first question.

Are you marketing consistently?

At least one thing should be going out every week if you want to consider yourself consistent. And no, that doesn’t have to mean multiple channels. Consistency still applies even if you’re just posting on Instagram once a week.

Do you know exactly what’s working and what’s not?

Oops, did you think this was going to be an easy 14 questions?

Maybe you are posting consistently, but do you know which channels and types of content are successful? If not, it’s time to make sure you have some type of KPI dashboard so you can see your numbers. From there, you can keep an eye on which channels have the highest engagement and what type of content drives that engagement as well.

Is your marketing bringing you leads or making sales?

Vanity metrics have their place for sure, but the ultimate metrics to keep an eye on are your clicks, leads, and sales (for most of us, anyway!). These are the numbers that actually translate to revenue and help keep your business going. So if your marketing is working, you should see these numbers growing as well. Even in this economy.

Are you repurposing your content or starting from scratch every time?

Fresh, new content is always great, and you should absolutely make sure you’re taking note of ideas whenever you have them! But you know you don’t have to put out unique content every time you post, right?

Your marketing will go much further if you save time by repurposing content: turn your blog posts into Instagram posts, your podcast clips into TikTok videos—the sky is the limit. Repurposing saves you time and gets your content in front of more people across channels. If you don’t have a content repurposing system, that’s a huge missed opportunity.

Do you have a clear strategy written somewhere?

You might love all of the marketing you put out there, and that’s awesome, but is it part of a strategy?

The reality is that you should have a strategy documented somewhere, but it doesn’t have to be a huge document. If you don’t have one yet, Enji can help! Our marketing strategy generator will create one for you in minutes once you start your free trial.

Are your social posts tied to your business goals?

If you’re running a small business, you need a social media strategy that’s separate from how you use your personal accounts. Otherwise? It’s way too easy to treat your business page like a personal one—posting whatever feels good in the moment, sharing random stuff you love...and then wondering why it’s not moving the needle.

Here’s the hard truth: If your posts aren’t tied to your actual business goals—like building brand awareness, generating leads, or making sales—you’re probably wasting a lot of time.

When’s the last time you updated your email list or sent a newsletter?

Gotcha! Your email list is a gold mine—whether there are 20 people or 20,000 people on your list, these are the people who have already decided to start a relationship with your business! If you neglect it, you’re leaving a ton of opportunity on the table.

Do you track your marketing KPIs?

We touched briefly on KPI’s above, but can we circle back? If you’re measuring your marketing efforts, excellent! But if we’re being honest, we know that most small businesses aren’t looking at their data. You want to be good at marketing though, right?

Tracking your marketing efforts in one KPI dashboard makes everything much easier, and it even helps you see patterns you might not notice when your data is all over the place. In fact, here’s how we used our own data to make Enji’s marketing plan for 2025.

Are you batching and scheduling content?

If you’re only creating content when inspiration strikes, you’re playing a dangerous game. Even if you’re one of those magical elves who can whip up a fresh idea every day (teach us your ways), you’re still leaving a lot up to chance.

You might forget that brilliant idea you had in the shower. You might hit a busy season and ghost your audience for weeks. It happens to the best of us.

Here’s a better way: Batch your content and schedule it in advance. That way, your best ideas actually make it out into the world—and you can stay consistent without constantly feeling chained to your phone.

And yes, you guessed it: Enji’s AI Copywriter and Social Media Scheduler make batching and posting way easier (and faster) than trying to wing it every day.

Can someone else jump in and help you with your marketing if needed?

You might be absolutely crushing your marketing game right now—but what happens when it works so well that your business grows? At some point, you’ll need to hand over the reins so you can focus on, you know, actually running the business.

That’s why it’s so important to have clear processes in place now. If someone else needs to jump in and help, they shouldn’t have to build everything from scratch. Good marketing scales when good systems are already in place.

Are your leads coming from multiple sources or just one?

If you want to be good at marketing, here’s another pro tip: You don’t want all your eggs (or leads) in one basket. If you’re relying on just one source—like Instagram—to bring in all your customers, you’re setting yourself up for a shaky foundation.

One algorithm change and... yikes.

The strongest businesses have multiple streams feeding into their marketing funnel.

That way, if one channel slows down, you’ve still got others working for you—and your growth keeps on growing.

Does your marketing feel manageable?

If your marketing is already stressing you out, you aren’t setting yourself up for long-term growth. If it isn’t manageable now, how will you scale up when you need to? Luckily, this is easy to improve on—you might just need a better marketing platform to take work off your plate or hired help who can move your marketing forward without you.

Are you building a community?

You might be good at posting, but building a community is what truly turns your business into a beloved brand. That means you’re also focused on engaging with your customers and other business owners, and you’re contributing to conversations online. With a community, you’re also consistently offering value, not just promoting your business.

Do you actually like your marketing system?

Last but not least, do you actually like your marketing system? Be honest, you might think you’re good at marketing, but do you actually like it? If the answer is NO, it might be time to sign up for Enji. With a solid system, everything is more manageable.

Plus, marketing is just a lot more fun when you have the team at Enji cheering you on (and monthly group coaching calls to support you whenever you’re feeling stuck).

Enji lets you generate a strategy while also creating content, scheduling it, and tracking your progress. It frees up time so you can focus on what you actually want to be doing. Want to see how it works? Start a free trial today to get started!
